“No Gold, No Glory!”
    —Trigger Happy's official catchphrase

Trigger Happy is a gremlin gunslinger Skylander in Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. He has a Legendary counterpart called Legendary Trigger Happy exclusive to Toys 'R' Us. He is one of the three Skylanders in the Spyro's Adventure Starter Pack. He also has a Spring counterpart, and his Series 3 counterpart is called Big Bang Trigger Happy.

In Skylanders: SuperChargers, Trigger Happy is redesigned as a SuperCharger named Double Dare Trigger Happy and is given new abilities.

Character Development

Trigger Happy was the first Skylander outside of the original-four to be designed and is one of three Skylanders appearing in Spyro's Adventure's starter-pack. His original design had him spend his gold as an ammunition resource with a secondary ability that would pull coins towards him with the coins acting as projectiles. The psychology of spending your gold resource as ammunition proved to be too negative and would eventually contradict one of Skylander's character design tenets: spammable primary attacks that are fun no matter what. Due to some confusion with the marketing team, Trigger Happy has a french accent in the early commercials. In development, Trigger Happy was first referred to as "the Golden Cheat".

Much like the battlecruisers in Star Craft, the Golden Yamato Blast upgrade pays tribute to Leiji Matsumoto's Space Battleship Yamato. The charge up mechanic beckons back to the Melnorme Trader from Toys For Bob's classic Star Control 2.[1]

Trigger Happy's solution to every problem is being, well, trigger-happy. He is known by the other Skylanders as a crazy gunslinger who will take down any evil-doer. The gremlin always loved hearing about his friends' exploits in their fight against evil to the point of hopping from one foot to the other in excitement. Trigger Happy is also shown to have a sense of humor, as he always liked nothing better than to hide a sheep or two in Hugo's wardrobe most weekends to mess with the Mabu.[2] In the Goldslinger Micro Comic, Trigger Happy shows a liking for roleplaying, passing as a dramatic Western fiction hero for the fun of it, and trying to convince Spyro to do similar in the future.

In Skylanders: Battlecast, despite his reckless personality, Trigger Happy shows great knowledge of fighting gear and machine customization, as seen previously in SuperChargers with his personally customized Gold Rusher.

Trigger Happy is more than his name -- it's his solution to every problem. Nobody knows from where he came. He just showed up one day in a small village, saving it from a group of terrorizing bandits by blasting gold coins everywhere with his custom-crafted shooters. Similar tales were soon heard from other villages, and his legend quickly grew. Now everyone in all of Skylands knows of the crazy goldslinger that will take down any bad guy... usually without bothering to aim.

With his kooky cackle and lolloping tongue, it's hard to get much sense out of Trigger Happy. The grinning gunslinger lets his golden pistols do the talking. In fact, his response to most things is to set both barrels blazing. Trigger Happy first appeared in a tough frontier town on the furthest reaches of Skylands. The town was dirt poor and had recently been beset by a band of bully bandits. One day, having grown bored of terrorizing the townsfolk with their bad breath and sheep-shearing jokes, the bandits were holding up the local bank. Outside, their dragon steeds were fired up for a quick getaway.

Suddenly, a short, stumpy stranger strolled into the high street. And after taking one look at the bandits, Trigger Happy started shooting. Gold coins sprayed everywhere, embedding themselves into the buildings and the behinds of the bandits, who promptly hightailed it out of there. The town was made instantly rich and Trigger Happy a legend. His gold-slinging antics soon reached the ears of Master Eon, who immediately made him a Skylander. Trigger Happy remains true to his name, by shooting first and asking questions later. Actually, he never bothers to ask questions.[3]

Spyro versus The Mega Monsters

Trigger Happy and Jet-Vac playfully remarking Spyro's 'legendary' status.

Trigger Happy was in a training session with Jet-Vac, Spyro, and Drill Sergeant when Spyro's attempt to master his Daybringer Flame attack went out of control with him accidentally unleashing his flames upon Trigger Happy and Drill Sergeant, leaving the two Tech Skylanders singed. The gremlin gunslinger later accompanied Spyro, Stealth Elf, and Drill Sergeant to the Eternal Archives with the Warrior Librarians. The Skylanders battled against mega-sized Chompies, but were outmatched until Kaos arrived and saved the heroes by suspending the Chompies in midair with a magic staff. When the Warrior Librarians Curator, Wiggleworth, refused to hand over a book from the Archive Kaos was after, the evil Portal Master released the mega-sized Chompies upon the heroes, but the Skylanders managed to defeat them with the help of a mega-sized Spyro.

Trigger Happy Targets the Evil Kaos

Trigger Happy, Food Fight and Smolderdash battled a rampaging Water Viper that was attacking the Mabu Market. After defeating the creature, they were called back to Eon's Citadel by Spyro and were soon assigned to Wool Mountain by Master Eon to find the Magic segment to the Mask of Power. The Skylanders were soon attacked by Kaos and his Troll Bombers while searching for the Mask of Power piece, but with the efforts of both Spyro and Trigger Happy, they were able to drive off Kaos and find the Mask segment that had taken on the form of a sheep.

Kaos using the Mask of Power to steal the abilities of the Skylanders, including Trigger Happy.

However soon after retrieving the segment, all of the Mask of Power segments were stolen by a Goliath Drow who was serving Kaos. Trigger Happy, along with the other Skylanders who previously took part in the search for the parts of the Mask of Power, teleported to Kaos' Kastle to stop Kaos from using the Mask of Power. Despite getting through the castle's defenses, the Skylanders were unable to stop Kaos from putting on the Mask of Power. With it, Kaos was able to steal the Skylanders' powers, including Trigger Happy's, leaving them defenseless. Before the evil Portal Master could finish the Skylanders off, they were safely teleported back to Eon's Citadel.

Trigger Happy, having lost his gun accuracy, was disheartened along with the other powerless Skylanders as Kaos wreaked havoc across Skylands with the Mask of Power. The gremlin's spirit was lifted when Spyro encouraged his fellow Skylanders not to give up, and the assembled heroes created a make-shift carrier in an attempt to protect the Core of Light from Kaos. When Kaos came to Eon's Citadel, the Skylanders, including an anxious Trigger Happy, were once again outmatched by the Mask of Power's abilities and Master Eon was also subdued by Kaos. Before Kaos could unleash his attack on the Core of Light, Trigger Happy, along with the other Skylanders, coaxed Kaos into using all of their abilities at once, causing the evil Portal Master to lose control. Trigger Happy took this opportunity to pull the Mask of Power off Kaos's face, restoring all of the Skylanders' powers and allowing them to ultimately destroy the Mask of Power.

With Kaos defeated once again, the Skylanders know that the evil Portal Master would return, but they, including Trigger Happy, are certain that he and the Skylanders will be ready for him.

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure

Trigger Happy with Gill Grunt and Slam Bam as they look upon the Hydra in horror.

Trigger Happy and Spyro were present with their leader, Master Eon, when Kaos and The Darkness approached. When Kaos sent his minions to destroy the Core of Light, Trigger Happy didn't appear in battle until he arrived and helped out Stump Smash fight a large number of Kaos' minions when the tree creature was outnumbered, taking out a few enemies with several shots of his dual guns. They both worked together in defeating the horde of enemies, including two Goliath Drows individually: Trigger Happy using his Golden Super Charge attack and Stump Smash using his Acorn Spit. Just as the Skylanders were winning the battle, Kaos unleashes his Hydra and it successfully destroys the Core of Light. Trigger Happy, along with the other Skylanders, were banished from Skylands and were sent to Earth where they were turned into toys, waiting for the new Portal Master to find them.

After Kaos was defeated, Spyro, Gill Grunt, and Trigger Happy were present at the Ruins with Hugo, Flynn, Cali, and Master Eon as Kaos made idle threats in his temporary prison. The three Skylanders all shared a knowing glance to one another, as Kaos rambled on vowing that he'll keep returning until Skylands was his if he was to be banished to the Outlands again. Instead, Kaos was banished to Earth where he was turned into a toy, and shortly after his departure, Spyro, Gill Grunt, and Trigger Happy celebrated their victory together.

Trigger Happy trying to catch up with Blades along with Night Shift and Bouncer.

Under Master Eon's orders, Trigger Happy was assigned to a mission with Blades, Night Shift and Bouncer to stop Magus from using a machine that threatened all of Skylands. However Blades, who was still learning how to be a Skylander, was on the verge of ruining the mission due to his recklessness. After an attempt to teach the young dragon about the value of working as a team, Blades claimed that he didn't need anyone's help and went on ahead to stop Magus by himself, prompting Trigger Happy, Bouncer and Night Shift to follow after him. As they talk about Blades' behavior with Bouncer, Trigger Happy agreed with Night Shift that Blades would learn his lesson the hard way.

The experienced Skylanders managed to save Blades just in time at the entrance to Magus' stronghold. With their strength combined as a team, they were able to destroy the Omni-Disruptor and defeat Magus and his Drow army. To the team's expectations, Blades apologized for his behavior and learned what it means to be part of a team. Trigger Happy, Night Shift and Bouncer then officially welcomed the young dragon into the Skylander team for future missions.

Skylanders: Imaginators

Trigger Happy appears in The Golden Arcade, apparently appearing as part of a performance lead by Sal. Additionally, he was the one who answered the doorbell the Skylanders had rung after defeating a Bad Bouncer, with the help of some local rats. However, he unintentionally got into a hot air balloon instead, so the Skylanders had to pop it with a cannon. After doing so, the gremlin let them in to met up with Sal.

He later was part of one of the side quests in the M.A.P. for making his giant "fake" birthday cake which would be completed in the Abandoned Amusement Park (though as stated by Brain in the opening cutscene to The Lair of Kaos, it wasn't close to his actual birthday), in which he assures Pop Fizz that the Arena is sure to reward more cake supplies.

Spyro the Dragon

Trigger Happy is best friends with the purple dragon, Spyro. As a result of being the few of the first modern Skylanders, Trigger Happy and Spyro have been working together a little longer than some of the other Skylanders, forming a bit more of a friendship based on longevity and shared experiences in their fight against the forces of evil.[4]

Gill Grunt

Other than Spyro, Trigger Happy is also best friends with Gill Grunt. The gremlin has also been working together with the Gillman alongside Spyro since they were some of the first modern day Skylanders.[4]

Trigger Happy can fire a barrage of gold coins at his enemies from his two guns. He can also hurl large gold objects, fire away at his opponents using a machine gun filled with coins, and release two yellow beams from his guns after charging them up.

Choosing the Golden Frenzy path upgrades Trigger Happy's golden guns. Not only can they be improved to do more outright damage, but they can also be modified to fire coins that ricochet off walls and other indestructible objects. The ultimate upgrade is the 'Golden Yamato Blast,' an attack that maximizes the charge up of Trigger Happy's guns to blast through multiple enemies with devastating force. This path is effective at picking off singular enemies one by one, especially those that use range combat.

Choosing the Golden Money Bags path upgrades Trigger Happy's thrown object, which by then will be a giant sack of money. Not only can it be improved to have a much longer throw distance, but it can also release coins everywhere to attack enemies in an area. Upon purchasing 'Heads or Tails,' Trigger Happy will start throwing a giant coin instead. If the coin lands tail-side up, then the attack acts as normal; if the coin lands head-side up, then it will stay on the field as a mind for enemies to walk into. This path is effective at taking on enemies that rush Trigger Happy.

In Battlecast, Trigger Happy has abilities revolving around luck and Gear, using his knowledge of the latter and Deep Pockets to help his allies and himself. His Special Ability is Custom Mods, adding attack to summoned Gears; and though he's the only character without a Gear of his own, his Merchant of Menace and Rummage spells show he carries around many regular ones to share between his allies and himself.
