The Minis are miniature versions of existing Skylanders that were introduced in Skylanders: Trap Team.

Gameplay designer Nat Loh and his team were tasked to bring back all the Sidekicks from Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure and Skylanders: Giants, as well as creating new ones as fully playable characters. This work required a lot of file organization and general porting. The team would each pitch in whenever one of them had time for the various tasks required for 16 different minis.[1]

The Skylander Minis started off as regular "Sidekicks", assisting the Skylanders on many exciting adventures. And what they lacked in size they more than made up for in courage. Ultimately determined to become full-fledged heroes, they trained at the Skylands Academy - honing their powers and skills until they were ready. Now, they stand side by side with their full grown counterparts, ready to defend Skylands against Kaos and his evil minions.

The Minis take after their bigger counterparts, in both personality and abilities. In the IDW comics, they are depicted as Skylanders with personalities to that of children.
