“Beware of spiders in this dungeon with the Skull Mask.”
    —Chapter Subtitle

Crawling Catacombs is the fifteenth chapter in the console version of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. Deep in the Underworld and infested with spiders, the Skylanders venture to retrieve the Skull Mask of Mortalannis.

Description

Crawling Catacombs is a dark, misty crypt built above an underground lake. The level's stone corridors are infested with spiders, guarded by saw traps and barricades, and filled with cobwebs. Unlike previous levels, Crawling Catacombs takes place fully underground.

Story

Guided by T-Bone, the Skylanders descend the skeletal staircase leading to the catacombs. T-Bone knows the location of the Skull Mask needed for the Core of Light, but before he can continue, a spider appears and chases him back up the staircase. Continuing on alone, the Skylanders travel through the catacombs, battling hordes of spiders of all shapes and sizes. Eventually arriving at The Widow's Court, the Skylanders battle a final onslaught of spiders before finally being able to claim the Skull Mask from behind the Monster Gate. The Skylander meets back up with T-Bone, who is impressed by the Skylanders' skill and also apologizes for running away, explaining that spiders like to steal his bones.

Trivia

  • The candlesticks in the latter half of the level can be pushed around and used as weapons against enemies, dealing 100 damage per hit. A candlestick can even be pushed into the final battle area of the Widow's Court, where the high volume of spiders can cause the candlestick to be flung high in the air by the momentum of multiple hits.
  • In the Wii version of Spyro's Adventure, the spider that chases T-Bone is a Moon Widow. In the PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 version, it is a unique green spider not seen anywhere else in the level.
  • The area that is called "The Sinister Cells" in the Wii version of Spyro's Adventure is known as "The Skittering Dark" in the PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 version.
  • When fighting the first Gargantula, there is a key behind it in the Wii version of Spyro's Adventure. In the PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 version, the key only appears once the Gargantula is defeated.
  • The spinning saw blades seen throughout the level can be destroyed with a bomb, but this sends the blades flying and will deal 25 damage if touched.
  • The area known as 'The Oubilette' is only named in the Wii version of Spyro's Adventure.
