The term "Core Skylanders" might be in reference to the fact that the original 32 Core Skylanders were known to defend the Core of Light, with other Core Skylanders like Spotlight being confirmed to have been training to defend the Core as well. However, as not all Core Skylanders were known to defend the Core of Light, this could just be a coincidence.
