- “She'll take you for a spin.”
- —Villain Vault
- “The Spirit is Willing!”
- —Bad Juju's Sensei catchphrase
Bad Juju is a witch doctor spirit who first appeared as one of the Air villains in Skylanders: Trap Team. She later appeared in Skylanders: SuperChargers, as one of the non-playable villain racers in the Racing Mode, driving an unnamed oddly-shaped vehicle with a duplicate of her skull on the front.
In Skylanders: Imaginators, Bad Juju has traded a life of crime to become a Sensei, training Imaginators of the Swashbuckler Battle Class with a new appearance and accompanied by her son Juju Junior.
Character Development
According to Character Gameplay Designer Nah Loh, for Skylanders Imaginators, Bad Juju has more complicated mechanics that are better suited to an advanced player. The original concept was inspired by Orianna from League of Legends. Nat Loh wanted Bad Juju to have a connection to an object that mattered for gameplay and reused Bad Juju's textures to save the artists a lot of time. He was also randomly thinking of his mom at the time so he started sketching out a baby for Bad Juju. While brainstorm ability names, Nat kept repeating "Juju" over and over again until "Juju Junior" just rolled out. He created a relationship between Bad Juju and Juju Junior in the mind of the player to be of the utmost importance, with the two being a mother and son team.[2]
Personality
If there's one thing the witch doctor loves, it's an afternoon nap.[3] Bad Juju loves to sleep, and those that disturb her must weather the consequences.[4] Despite being mean to a fault, she soon changed her villainous ways to become a better role model for her son; this is reflected in gameplay with Bad Juju playing defensively while near her son and aggressively while he is away. Meanwhile, Juju Junior is cheerful and always excited, eager to help his mother.
Despite being a high-ranking servant of the Golden Queen for a long time, Bad Juju admitted to greatly disliking her after capture.
Story
Skylanders: Trap Team
Bad Juju was first encountered in the Lair of the Golden Queen. When the Skylanders were battling their way through the Queen's homestead, they inadvertently awoke Bad Juju from her slumber, enraging her. Her attempts to subdue them with her magic failed and after her defeat, she was promptly trapped.
After the Skylanders defeated the Golden Queen, they took the ghostly skeleton back to the lair for her Villain Quest with Glumshanks, called "Remote Location". He explained to the heroes that they both wanted to stop the Queen, so the Troll built a spare remote in hopes of shutting it down for good. However, he accidentally dropped it down a sandpit and needed Bad Juju to use her whirlwind to pick it up for him. After her task was complete, she was awarded with Glumshanks' thanks, a new outfit, and the Beetle Hat.
Skylanders: Imaginators
Just like her name suggests, Bad Juju had always been bad. From her humble beginnings as a witch doctor, where she put curses on her patients instead of curing them, to being the Golden Queen's right-hand sorceress, she had spent her entire life as a villain. Being captured by the Skylanders didn't do much to change her attitude either. At least, that was the case until the day she conjured up more then she bargained for - a son named Juju Junior. That was when she finally decided it was time to come to change her lifestyle. She didn't want to raise Juju Junior inside a prison thinking that his magical mother was a criminal. So she asked Master Eon to give her a chance to be a hero instead. As luck would have it, Eon was looking for a Swashbuckler Sensei who could help train Imaginators the value of being good. Not bad for Bad Juju.
Gameplay
Bad Juju can summon storms and whirlwinds to suck in enemies and call upon lightning strikes, and she can also teleport as seen in her introduction. As seen in unused Skylanders: Battlecast card art, Bad Juju can also use mind control, with her victim sporting eyes with similar design to hers.[5]
In Imaginators, Bad Juju no longer fights alone, now with her son Juju Junior and wind spirits at her side. She also wields the Whirling Blades, which channel the wind spirits to power up the blades with an aura while alone, and a protective circle when accompanied by her son. She now takes full advantage of her detached head, keeping her focus on enemies as she spins for attacks and channels the wind to increase the duration of attacks and her speed; while Juju Junior can curse enemies and release static electricity when eating lightning. For their Sky-Chi, Bad Juju creates a lightning tether between her and her son, electrifying enemies that he runs into.

Trivia
- When explaining her quest, Glumshanks uses male pronouns to refer to Bad Juju even though she is female. She is also referred to as a "he" by a Battlecast artist.[5]
- She and Eye Scream and the only female villains that are mistaken with male pronouns.
- In game, she is slouched over but she straightens when she uses her attacks, as well as spinning her skull vertically or horizontally.
- She is briefly seen in Stormblade's backstory in Dive, Dive, Dive!, being chased by the Sky Slicer, and shown with Grave Clobber in Biting Back's credits page.
- This is because she would've been a major villain in the next comic arc along with Grave Clobber, but it was cancelled during production.[6]
- Bad Juju speaks in a Jamaican accent, with a very slight warble filter.
- Bad Juju is voiced by Kimberly Brooks who also voices Echo, well known for her voice acting roles as Buena Girl from Mucha Lucha! and Jasper from Steven Universe.
- She has upside-down versions of the Air symbol engraved into, or part of her eyes.
- Stranger still, Bad Juju and Juju Junior have an eye-like appendage on the back of her skull, which in Imaginators glows greenish. It is unknown if it's their true eye or just another engraving, as in Trap Team it was entirely gold and flat.
- In her toy form and in Ring of Heroes', the eye engraving is replaced with a ball with engravings, connecting the skull to the shoulders. The reason for its inclusion in the mobile game, however, is unknown.
- On the official Skylanders website, she was mistakenly listed twice.
- Bad Juju, Hood Sickle and Grave Clobber are the only Undead creatures to not be from that element.
- Oddly, she is the only one of them to not change elements in Imaginators.
- Additionally, only Grave Clobber had no color changes between games.
- Bad Juju is the third character to fight with the help of family members, after Sonic Boom and Eye-Brawl.
- Bad Juju and Sonic Boom, alongside Hammer Slam Bowser, are the only known Skylanders to have children (Juju Junior, the baby griffins and Bowser Jr., respectively).
- Her catchphrase is based on the Bible verse Matthew Ch.26:41, "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak", meaning that despite the individual's intention, the body might be a limitation. Bad Juju using only the first part of the quote might represent that she overcame her villainous drive to be a better mother to Juju Junior.
- She is the only Air Sensei to not come in an Adventure Pack.
- For her idle animation, Bad Juju sharpens her blades against each other, or taunts while pointing forward. She is one of the few Skylanders with multiple idle animations.
